The completed protection plan identifies the priority issues of concern and protection strategies for the public water system and the community.  Implementation of best management practices (BMPs) identified in the Source Water Protection plan may begin after completion of the plan.  The WQCD designed a table in the Source Water Protection Planning Template to help guide protection strategies initiated by the Public Water System and implemented with cooperating partners.

Protection planning funding and active support by the steering committee will reduce the risk of potential source water threats.  Source water protection planning is a first line of defense in reducing costly contamination issues and potentially minimizing long-term treatment costs.
