Inventory of Potential Contaminant Sources

The Inventory process identifies potential sources of contamination (PSOCs) located within the assessment area.   PSOCs include any activity likely to manufacture, produce, use, store, dispose, or transport regulated or unregulated contaminants.  After the PSOC inventory is completed, contaminant sources are labeled as either discrete or dispersed.  Source Water Assessment describes a discrete source as one that introduces contaminants into the system from a relatively small location, such as a manufacturing facility.  Larger  regional threats, such as agricultural processes, are referred to as dispersed contaminants due to their non-specific point of origin.
